We are going to trial using adverts on the website for a little bit to see how intrusive they are and how much revenue it creates. We want to explore all options available to us and if we can get a steady income through this and not ask for donations, this may be preferable. It may be a few days before they start appearing.

Adverts are a bit annoying but if it helps keep the site going they are worth it , I would hope that as you build the business advertising part they will happily donate then you may be able to ditch the adverts.
Thanks for taking the time to respond Karen. Businesses have been very generous with donations (people can see the running total here: https://www.ackworthcommunityhub.co.uk/about-us/donate) but I do worry that the early buzz will reduce and we won't get as many. We are already seeing this a bit as donations have reduced a lot since the first week.
If we do manage to get this calendar off the ground and is a success, that may be another funding avenue for us and may stop the need for any adverts or donations - we'll see.
We need around £150 a year to keep this going and the adverts in the last week have totalled around £15 (although the daily amount is dropping so £15 may be optimistic for a week in future) so it looks like it will pay for the site and have some left over. If that happens, donations and any other initiative can be put towards charity.
