Sharing your Skills

I probably shouldn't say this out loud but I'm a Londoner by birth...

I know, I know, a southern softie but I've lived in Ackworth for almost 5 years now and I'm proud to call it my home.  The reason I bring this up is that the old stereotypes about the north v south are, from my experience, largely true.  Community is so much more noticeable up here and this is one of the reasons for starting this website.  I feel a part of the community and I'm keen to give back.

One way we can give back is to share our skills and expertise with our neighbours.  I'm struck by how many posts on social media I see asking for help.  Whether that be to borrow and item someone needs, to see if someone has something to give away for free or for advice about things.  We already have the fantastic Freecycle scheme and I thought it would be a great idea to have a similar scheme but for skills rather than goods.

There will be many people around the village who have skills that others need.  For instance, at this time of year there are a number of youngsters leaving school and are looking for a helping hand to get them on the job ladder.  There will be a lot of people with advice and expertise in this area so why not marry them up and offer to help out?

This scheme will only work if people get involved so I do implore you to get in touch and list what you can offer and see what happens.  I also reach out to those who want some help and get in touch and let's see if we can put you in contact with someone.

As always, Ackworth, you have been amazing with this and I'm so pleased people are interacting with this website.  Please do get in touch if there is anything you feel we can add to this site and make it even more useful for people.
